Thank you for this essay. Such projections have been my number-one complaint. I've been positive for 28 years, and from the start I was faced with presumptions that I was frail and dying, both from fellow HIVers and caregivers, even though I never actually had an AIDS diagnosis and continued to live actively. I wasted many years trying to psychologically downgrade and deny myself to match a presumption of stereotypical / normative HIV illness.
