I was 22 years in before I started meds. I'm now 31 years positive. I was in denial, so I didn't harp on the virus. I lived my life as if I didn't have it. Maybe I stressed less about it and it helped, or maybe, it's in the water here in NYC.

It's good to see how different people go about taking care of themselves after a HIV+ diagnosis. Rightly or wrongly, I trust doctors, scientists and pharma very little... Yes, I'd even question the HIV tests... So, it's awkward for me. I am supposed to trust that if I were given a + result on the test them I'd have actual HIV antibodies... Then I a expected to believe that would mean HIV+ status.

I was just like them during the first 9 years of being positive. My viral load remained below 10,000 for that entire time; however, after my gut associated immune system was finally depleted, my viral load skyrocketed and my CD4 count dropped to AIDS levels. It was finally time for medication. Healthy living will only take you so far, and this does not work for everyone, but I am hoping they can avoid the medications for many years to come. Believe me, the virus and the meds age you!
