David Holtgrave, PhD, has been appointed to the newly created position of vice chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), according to an AIDS.gov blog post. He has served as a PACHA member since 2010.

Holtgrave is professor and chair of the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research has focused on the cost and effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions.

Prior to his work at Johns Hopkins, Holtgrave was the director of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention–Intervention Research and Support (DHAP–IRS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Nancy Mahon, senior vice president of MAC Cosmetics and global executive director of the MAC AIDS Fund, remains as chair of PACHA. The group consists of 24 people with a diverse set of HIV/AIDS experiences.
