Yes, and how about when your HIV doctor refuses to send in documentation to the insurance company? I had my HIV dr. as well as my oncologist to both refuse to simply send in the required paperwork. Both at OU Medical Center. I was told "You are fine to return to work". BTW, neither of them had been there during my Cancer (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, caused by long term use of Crixivan). They caused me to lose 1/3 of my already low income.

Do your homework long before you need to go on disability. Put yourself in a good position if it is needed. I did that in 1985 when I was diagnosed HIV+. As it turned out, in 1995, at 48 I had to go on disability. I had educated myself on what the insurance company would do to fight me and made certain that I was very detailed of my issues at every doctor's appointment. For 17 years I reviewed everything that went to the insurance company. I received benefits until I was 65, and I'm alive.

I worked for the State of AZ for 17 years, I filed for long term disability, which was denied because I took my retirement out, they created a law in 2002 that I was unaware of, stating your retirement, had to remain untouched, I paid all that money into LTD.. I ended up waiting for 2 years for SS benefits. I became homeless, It was a mess, but now working PT, I thought it was the stress of the job. Was Hep C. Cured now.
