Thank you Regan for a reminder that stigma affects all those who come in contact with people with HIV, especially those living with HIV. Stigmatization is a reminder that we need to keep fighting, or coming to better terms with the reality that AIDS and HIV virus exist, are REAL, societal realities, and that compassion and understanding are the true componants when living with this. Encouraging people to come together and not fall apart is only a part of the answer
Just saw the video with Kenneth Cole related to stigma. Good job! As a straight man with HIV there is a different kind of stigma (albeit, the undelying fear people have are the same). It is nice see that things other than the health issues and financial issues associated with the disease are getting some air time and publicity.
You are so right!!When I have told people the look on their face is so degrading. Stigma is the hardest thing about this disease. Thank you for the article.
Amen, Amen, do you think HIV stigma is just a black thing because where I live, it's the black community that won't step up to get tested and we are losing ground with prevention education, I am an outreach worker and it is so sad how people are still hiding behind the stigma, you are so on target with this article, it will be on the table at the World AIDS Day prayer Breakfast, thanks
Tim
I'd like to say, that over the 19 years that I've been positive, stigma seems to have come a long way. There is still a long way to go, but my god, it's a lot better than in the years past!
