The People’s Harm Reduction Alliance, a Seattle-basednonprofit group, has started a new program that hands out free crack pipes toreduce HIV transmission, Hip-Hop Wired reports. The group claims cuts on themouth from broken pipes contribute to HIV transmission. The group also runs aneedle exchange program for intravenous drug users. Studies support needleexchange programs for HIV prevention, officials said, but no similar studiesexist for distributing free crack pipes.
