Cont... not only is he chronically depressed and likely feeling guilty for transmitting the virus to his partner, but he's probably ashamed that he had unprotected sex despite agreeing with the trial staff to use protection. I don't see how this article evokes 1980s HIV hysteria. If they flat out call the man a liar, how likely will he later admit what he failed to do?

@jimallen that's not how science works. Self reporting data shouldn't be automatically dismissed, because there needs to be a mutual trust among study participants and the people running it. These studies rely on accurate reporting of participants personal lives and they have no evidence to refute what the man said, but there is plenty of data to acknowledge that he is more than likely not being forthcoming.

Seriously I read the study, because the guy ticked boxed a sheet that he knew the transmission risks & because they claim the only contact sexually was "her" being licked, they don't want to rule this out (a saliva transmission in short) from him to her, yet they also admit they can't rule out they did do more sexual acts than they are disclosing. Oh common this is like reading 1980's reports of toothbrushes & kisses,i thought we were beyond this and stopped taking self reported data seriously
