Dr. Robert Gallo, one of the U.S. scientists who first discovered HIV in the 1980s, will use a $15 million grant to test a possible vaccine for the virus that has already proved successful in monkeys. The five-year grant is part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery, which started last year.
