This is a good, if dated, article. Ranitidine has been pulled from the market and there is a new injectable protease that bypasses the GI tract completely. GI problems for people with HIV are real. In its first iteration Norvir made me nauseous beyond comprehension. Anyway, many HIVers need info about gut health. Please update.

I was put on Truvada and Issentres at the start of January. I developed reflux, bloating and overall discomfort, particularly at nighttime when I would get hot flashes. I brought this to my Dr's attention today and he dismissed me saying that none of the things I reported were associated with what had been prescribed to me...said it might be TB even though I have no signs of infection, fevers or coughing. I have no idea what to do now.

My initial infection was all in the gut and very severe. My first drug was also Atripla and most all gastro symptoms disappeared except the loose bowel movements. I then switched to Complera and that brought on the most "normal" my gastro system has been . About 6 months ago, I was switched to Odefsy. Within a couple of months I became lactose intolerant, constant bloating, gas, inconsistent bowel movements. Depression is more severe. Coincidence? Disease progression at 7 years? Not sure.

I have not experience much gut problems in the last 27 years of HIV, other than gas at times, when I eat a lot of garlic. I eat better each year as I learn what my body likes in building muscle/strength to move ( a book,Flip the Switch by Dr Copper is a great study on good eating for the gut) and yogurt daily, plus I keep moving. I always eat before taking my Stribild or now, I switched to Genvoya. Just saying, it keeps me healthy and active, good food an getting up in moving daily.
