I would guess high cholesterol has a correlation with poor cognitive health in the HIV- too, if for no other reason than people with people with higher cholesterol are probably less likely to eat well, exercise and come from educated backgrounds. Are we just noting a fact that should already be self evident? Do headlines like "smoking tied to lung cancer in HIV+ people" reveal anything, or just add to stigmatizing portrayals of us as sickly and doomed?
