Nancy Pelosi is a political climate all by herself. if you mean Trump supporters. There is no Danger. Anything Nancy Pelosi is involved in, is always wrong. Its sad that you take her suggestions. very sad
Come to Toronto!!!! Bring your sunglasses- there is a nude beach on Hanlan's Point on the Islands...
I understand the concern given how things have transpired in the US since the 2016 election. However, as an advocate for other people thriving with HIV/AIDS, I am leaning towards wanting to stand up to the marginalization by holding this event in defiance of this of the climate here. We should not back down, we should stand up together and celebrate what has been accomplished in the past 30+ years of this pandemic and honor the lives lost.
Nit-pickers and hyper political correctees can always finds ways to destroy good intentions and important accomplishments. What can these complainers accomplish that won't be eclipsed by the benefit of the conference itself? What country in the world has provided more in shear support financially and legislatively to combat this horrible illness? There is always room for improvement, but nit-picking can be counter productive and diminish the stature of such an important mission.
These professional fear-mongers and agitators need to get their heads out of their butts and join the real world. The problem with fear-mongering is that people just don’t know when to quit. Can you always get things your own way and make everything “perfect”? No. Welcome to the world of adults. Do you you need to embrace opportunities and work WITH like-minded people to effect change in your own country? YES! I can’t think of a more appropriate time or place to hold IAS2020 than SF in 2020
I understand the potential restrictions travellers may face, further the heightened stigmatization & marginalization because of a political climate. While I support a conference off US soil, how can we guarantee these same values will be upheld in any other country given local and international politics? I argue the US(SF) is as good as it's gonna get to protecting research, participants, and solidarity towards progress. It's great to hear concerns, but a solution should follow.
I can understand why the U.S. Based HIV groups are voicing their concerns, but by us not hosting the conference in San Francisco, we are "allowing" this unacceptable behavior to continue. In these times, it is imperative that we stand united and stronger!!

Aside from the stated reasons that the US should not host the conference based on the conference principles, Hosting AIDS 2020 is an honor. I simply do not believe that we deserve that honor when those we have elected to support our best interests have not succeeded. I don't feel safe in hosting an open exchange of ideas with people from other nations as our guests. I only wish it were different, but alas, it is not.
