Of course drugs will kill you twice as fast as a non user. I have facts. A dear friend of mine got tested poz around same time as me. I quit all drugs and booz where he continued with coke, acid booze meth. He looks 20 yrs older than I. Has been on his death bed so many times. He looks like a corose. He is always ill. I however am in tip top condition. I don't know why he bothers with the meds cause the drugs just defeat the purpopse. I guess to each his own though.

As a addict who has been clean for 19 months I can attest to having some serious neurocognitive issues on two different occasions (2006 & 2009). After all kinds of tests (brain biopsy, spinal taps, CT's, etc...) the reason for the issues were inconclusive. I am fine today, but those two times were very scary for me.

Caution is appropriate to those being treated with methadone for treating a substance abuse, such as opiods. Numerous publications in NMI report cognitive deficiencies for those being treated with methadone. My frontal lobe cognition (memory, concentration, etc.)were in terrible shape on 90mg methadone for 8 years. Read the articles. Doctor agreed to lower, slowly, to 35mg. Huge progress in recovering cognitive functions. If methadone is offered as treatment, seriously consider options.
