Aware of HIV+ since 2008, received vaccine in Dec 2015, never had shingles prior, just one occurrence of chicken pox at age 2. I now suffer from reoccurring shingles, first occurrence only three months after the vaccine. Horrible decision on my physician’s part, they should not have advised me of taking it. I was encouraged to receive it. My CD4 count has been over 900 since Jan 2009 including at the time of vaccination. CD4 count is irrelevant with HIV* patients.

I am a 60 year old man and have been hiv pos since 1986.I have been dealing with mild shingles for most of that time. No matter what my dcd4 is,now at 600,they come out. Untill now it was just a small irritation,a couple blisters several times a year. Noww it is a full scale string about a foot long coming from my spine. A very different sition than usual.

I have shingles on my face now (Nov2012), first time and taking acyclovir. My cd4 last Sep2012 was at 249. I just read above that the risk is high with cd4 below 350. If this is true, i need to wait for few months to achieve that level.... praying.

I had an outbreak of shingles approx. 6 years ago. I was diagnosed with full AIDS two years later. Would the Shingles vaccination be to my advantage now. Should I get vaccinated+

The simple truth is that we just do not know when it comes to medical facts, there really are none, we think we understand how everything works but you know every few years we learn about things we thought we used to know were true but now we find they were false based on flawed information.

Just as in the past medical doctors used to think that shock treatment was a good thing that it really worked, we now know it was evil but back in the 1950s they "Thought" they knew it all, this is that.

I would like to know if HIV+ individuals SHOULD receive the vaccine, that is, is it EFFICACIOUS for us? The fine print on the vaccine ad says HIV+ people should NOT take it. Need a good answer. I would think the immune system could use a kick start to fight the virus if it ever made a comeback after so many years since childhood. What are the pros and cons, esp. for undetectable persons with reasonable CD4's?

In the State of Oregon pharmacists will not administer the Shingles vaccine to HIV+ people. Even if your CD4 count is in the normal range. Makes me angry!
