I have been HIV positive for 10 years. My total testosterone level is in the normal to high range. My free T is low and the side affects of low T are bothersome. Mostly the inability to maintain lean muscle mass. I see a very good doc for management of my HIV. Any suggestions on how to safely increase free T?
Abnormally low levels of testosterone (T), can cause severe depression, lack of libido, and even premature death. In a study of 800 men, those with low T levels had a 33% greater risk of death during the next 18 years than those with higher T. Another cause of low T can be Opioid Induced Androgen Deficiency (from prolonged use of opioid drugs, e.g. morphine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, methadone, fentanyl, etc.) Normal range is from 300 to 1000 - get yourself tested, and if necessary, treated!
I was on adrogel for years my testosterone level was good,Until I started have chest pain and in large breast. I had a manogram it came back ok now I need to see if I can go back on the Adrogel... If it not one thing it's something else.Hey thanks GOD I'm still alive right!
I am on TRT using Adrogel, this is the Best I've felt and looked in years! Yes, my Doc looked at my Total T. which was a low normal, however as stated in this article my Free T. was in fact low.

I've been diagnosed with HIV 4 years ago (AIDS at time of diagnosis). After getting on ART I started having orgasmic problems. My total testosterone is in the middle of normal, SHBG is twice the upper normal, free testosterone is just below low normal. I am thinking of getting on AndroGel by concerned it will reduce my CD4 since some studies show testosterone does that. Any input on that?
