This is long overdue, other Countries have already been doing this for yrs. As usual, if not for the obstructionistic attitudes mostly laid at the feet of the Christian Right which has blocked everything from Stem Cell Research to Transplantation Laws the US would be yrs ahead of where we are now. Add to that the Big Pharma companies that refuse to share with each other drugs that could cure HCV without the need for Pegelated Interferon and Co-Pegysas which leaves us all to suffer.
This bill is long overdue; the US Senate has finally approached the reality of HIV in its third decade of existence. I definitely plan to donate my organs and encourage more Poz people to do as well.
Amazing never realized that this was even happening, so if you have HIV and need a transplant to live, then before now you just died, what else is going on that we may not even realize is happening. There are still a lot of places where you cannot even travel and even some nations are testing and if you test poz then you are turned around and not allowed to come into the country... When will we learn that changing the name of Aids was only to help people feel better, HiV is Aids.
It is about time, organs are a limited in number. Why use a HIV negative organ in an HIV positive person. the use of HIV positive organs for an HIV positive person, frees up, an organ for another person. Also believe children, should be top on the organ list. many adult organs can be used in older children. Also some organs like livers can be split, and used in more than one child. Both of these, give organs in a smart way.
Why not research organ donations to HIV- recipients? At worst, it is a chronic disease, and better than death (if that is the alternative to organ donation). And perhaps with research, "washing" the organ with some sort of PREP-like drugs would make it HIV free.

Glad to hear that there is a movement for the organ transplant for HIV Poz people to become a reality.
