Although this is a step forward for prevention, there are still many prejudicial barriers. For example injection drug users. IDUs will likely not have access to PrEP let alone access to post exposure prophylaxis medications when they report sharing needles, syringes and other equipment needed to prepare drugs for injection. Needle exchange programs and heath care centres have needle-stick protocols for staff. However with PrEP available to high risk heterosexuals, IDUs are still denied PEP.
