More than 1,000 extremely low-income people living with HIV/AIDS will receive permanent housing as a result of $23 million in grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to a HUD statement. The funding offers 1,015 households permanent supportive housing for the next three years. Support services are also provided to help them manage their illnesses. The grants renew support of 22 local HIV housing programs in 18 states through HUD’s Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program.
