Surgery? First, it says, "easily removed". Then later (LOOK OVER THERE - IT'S A FLYING DONKEY!), it says, "surgically removed". I know companies are looking for ways to extend patents set to go generic. Therefore without new drug therapy, these companies are looking for new delivery systems. After huge issues with monthly injection schedules (such as evacuations due to hurricanes) now they want to implant meds for a year? But, not to worry, we can cut you open when something goes wrong.

@HIV since 1995, well, that is why the patient is allowed to make an informed choice isn't it? The convenience of a year long delivery system means a surgical implant. And of course that needs to be removed at some point - either when there is a problem or else when the implant has been spent / used up. If you don't like that then opt for the monthly injections or else the daily pill. Personally, I'd go for the daily pill because I'm in control of that. Plus, I don't want injections or surgery.
