Historically, when someone has called me queer, I took offense to it as has almost every gay person, male or female, that I've ever known. We still take offense to it. Was it used for shock value or because the words gay or lesbian aren't eye-catching enough? Unless it's a self-appointed title, the term queer sure doesn't connote anything positive. How would most of us react to a heterosexual person referring to us as queer? Not positively I can assure you.
