Joe Mantello, who played the character of Ned Weeks in the 2011 Broadway debut of The Normal Heart, will play the character of Mickey Marcus for the 2014 HBO film adaptation, reports. The play, written by Larry Kramer and set in New York City at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, originally debuted off-Broadway in 1985; the Broadway production won Best Revival of a Play at the 2011 Tony Awards. The HBO cast already includes Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons and Taylor Kitsch. Kramer is writing the screenplay, and Ryan Murphy is directing.
