I absolutely agree that there needs to be a bigger focus on HIV and Mental Health. Not just for long term survivors but most people living with the disease. For me, poor mental health was a big contributor to why I contracted HIV. I discuss this on my blog havinghiv.blogspot.com
Not just gay men! we women who were diagnosed in the 90's are suffering the same symptoms.
I believe that this is vital information despite the apathy out there to continue the discussion or to try to find funding for a program to address the PTSD symtoms. The Call for Abstracts for the 2013 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting & Expo in Boston(11/2-6/2013) is now open (www.apha.org/meetings). Submit an abstract now for session presentation on this topic to the HIV/AIDS Section, Mental Health Section, and LGBT Caucus. Abstract submisstion deadline is early/mid February
What a beautiful heartfelt and very wise piece, John. I agree with all points made. Spencer is somewhere smiling at this beautiful article.

I, like the poster who calls himself "jackfrost" also contracted HIV in 2012, due to a variety of mental health issues, and the fact I had quit mental health meds early in 2012. I desperately wish the Medius Institute had succeeded when first begun, to have helped me with issues that affect gay men experiencing PTSD-type issues after traumatic marriage failures and turbulent coming out processes.
