This is happening to my partner in 2022. Denied at two prominent lung transplant facilities in our home state simply on the basis of his HIV status, even though well controlled for the last 32 years. After months of waiting, finally received a call from a transplant center 850 miles away for an evaluation. But I fear it may be too late as he is struggling so much and it is going to be a major challenge for us to travel. We also don't have the money required for lodging, travel, etc.

In the early 1990's Kaiser Permanente tried to deny my partner a coronary artery bypass graft on the basis of his HIV diagnosis, and I raised hell until they did it. My heart goes out to the family.
