This article raised far more questions concerning this person being fired than the article exposed. I don't know why POZ posted it for after reading it all I could make of it is POZ had McDonald's write the article for them. Background and facts were left out of the article. Something like this person worked at the McDonald's for 5 years with outstanding reviews and many other facts would have made this article interesting and empowering. Instead the readers shopping cart is empty.

If what has been described is true, it's crazy. I was a General Manager for McDonalds. Over 10 years ago when I found out I was positive, I shared the info with the owner/operator and with my management staff and life and business continued.

good luck. but, you know that mcd's is not going to admit to that. and even if it's true, with expensive lawyers, mcd's will probably win, and the eeoc will probably get paid off. it's happened to me from a very large company. even physical proof and a hidden voice recorder.

Shawn, many employers use the fiction of poor performance as an excuse to release "undesirable" employees such as LGBT or HIV poz. It's a dirty practice that most people are not aware of - it's been done to me twice. I seriously doubt the employee was using HIV as an excuse. The article doesn't give enough details to even guess such a thing. Give the victim the benefit of the doubt, the situation is ugly enough as it is. Discrimination is a horrible feeling, trust me.

I wish they had given more information. Was this person written up for poor performance prior to being dismissed? I wouldn't put it past some people to disclose their status as a last ditch protection against getting fired if things weren't going well. If that is not the case, then the manager at that McDonald's should be disciplined.
