No traits of a group can be conferred or implied to be traits of an individual. A black gay male who shares many of the same experiences that a gay male of any race might. Some experiences are more prevalent however. Adoption of the hyper-masculine persona and avoiding being outed as gay for their communities sounds much like the "downlow" or DL man. But the DL that was debunked to be a myth years ago. Wasn't it.

Frankly I'm over the whole misguided imagery of masculinity. It has done nothing but promote an idea that being a man is equal to aggression.

Black men in particular have a history of this. It stems from centuries of being put down and having to preserve some level of dignity. The Black church has been of little to no help in developing beyond that mold.

Another problem is the belief that only white men can be gay. Further exacerbated by a movement that has not faced it's own racial biases.
