They are losing control of their people, this virus gives them an excuse to become even more draconian. Also, they wanted to slow down the entire global economy to compete with their slowdown as they are reaching medium term growth limits.
Occam's Razor suggest this virus originated in a lab. Exhibit A - Chinese authorities and their lackeys at the WHO did not inform the world of human to human transmission when the Chinese government KNEW otherwise. They wanted the virus to spread globally and thus let 5 million people leave the country during the Chinese New Year. Was Tom Cotton saying that just because it originated in China? Fear of China perhaps... Scaremongering of China. Yeah, they shut him down, but was he made to put out the fear or did he think that bit up himself? Similar fears were written of by other about HIV originating in an American research lab. Similar has been written of about Ebola, etc. And others have suggested that the US released the new Coronavirus in China. Anyway, let's not silence people.

Who really knows? Is there a cover up? Is there no cover up? If there is a cover up then it's dirty and nasty for that reason. But if it appeared simply because of the human population explosion, global travel and human incursions / destruction of the the natural habitats of other species then it's dirty and nasty for this reason. Frankly, it could be either. We had the same investigation shut down regarding HIV. Do you remember?
