being HIV/AIDS infected since 1994, I have diligently worked at preventing infection of my sex partners. This manifesto is correct that criminalizations are vague and to what end do you accuse somebody and throw them in jail?? Just like that HIV poz Willie Brown in TX who spat on a cop, now he's in jail for 35yrs???? What a waste of tax resources. Even the CDC said there was NO change in hell that hiv is transmitted through spit. Laws need logical revision. Or the "WITCH HUNTS" continue!

I think there could be a gray area in there. Criminalizing those for just having HIV or living with AIDS is outragious. But.if someone knows they are poz.refusing to get tested and spreads the infection. that is something completely different. purposely infecting someone should be a crime. I think or atleast I hope they realy clarify what constitutes a crime and what doesnt as far as HIV and AIDS is concerned.maybe because I am not able to read the entire manifesto I am not seeing alot there...

Erika - FYI - There has NEVER been a case of HIV transmission via saliva. More people die of the flu ea. So do we start to charge employees who "willingly" or "knowingly" come to work with the flu, or strep, or other host of diseases. As a person who's on HAART, employees endanger my health EVERY DAY when they choose to come to work potentially infecting me with a life-impacting illness. It's EVERYONE'S responsibility to know who you're sleeping with. Period.

I believe only if the act leads to infection should someone be procescuted.Otherwise it should be considered like a DUI.

I agree that all laws like this one should be taken off the books. It is one of the major things of why people are afraid to get tested. They should only be charged as anyone else would for cases of rape and etc. Just because they have HIV is not right to put them in prisons.

So if someone has sex with a non infected person knowing that they are HIV+ its cool or great ? And the homeless man most likely spit in the officers face and then proceeded to tell him that he was positive to scare him. How did the cops even know ? I feel that meds for HIV should be free or part of the $4 rx program and medical care should be subsidized. I don't believe we should encourage irresponsible behavior.

Thanks for comment Mari. I am involved in the work with the norwegian HIV Manifesto, feedback is much appreciated! We are working on an exhibition of our work, media-coverage etc, and maybe we will use some quotes from comments here in the exhibition. It's always enriching to get views from people from other countries and cultures.
