Being a 30 year survivor of this disease, access to care with passion makes a whole world of a difference. POZ living in Austin, Texas is tops for care, in my opinion.
I learned not to simply follow my id dr's orders but to begin to listen to my body and take notes of every ache or pain I felt and have them addressed at my next checkup . By having taken control of mu own status my Dr and even the nurse practioner learned I was not going to blindly follow orders and thus began a long standing understanding of the relationship of the patient dr interaction which thus far lasted over the course of the next 10+ years .
My Doctor only cares about my co-pay and what he gets from my insurance for his 5 minutes with me!
can you beleive this? My HIV Doctor doesnt like me to go into internet and find out about HIV info. Him and his assistant frown at me everytime I mention HIV information gotten in the web. I am suspecting my health provider to have a severe case of internet jelousy. Whenever I go for an appointment with him its better if I dont mention internet HIV info at all. I wonder if anyone else has had this amazing conflict.
