Poz obviously does not understand much about the conditions in countries where the Peace Corps sends volunteers. When I served in West Africa 20 years ago I cam does with all kinds of tropical illnesses including hook worm, round work, tape worm, Amoebic dysentery, and malaria (on almost a monthly basis)to name a few. The medical care was was basic. In a place like Burkina Faso there are few facilities if any to do blood tests that would be routine in the US.

It is dissappointing for an Organ like Peace Corps to put up such discriminatory rules. HIV is not a disease but a condition which can be monitored and controlled. It is a shame on this Organ, I thought such Organs are suppose to uphold human rights and live to promote human diginity. Such Organs are not even supposed to be in existence because they tend to frustrate, humiliate, and above all bring down people's calling to render services to others despite their health status -shame on you.

I would hope that they would review their policy. They also need more and better education on the HIV diease, and learn to be thankful that those who test positive would still want to volunteer their time to help their organization out. They should only let those go if they asked to be released from any contract they might have signed up for.
