World leaders have unveiled a plan to eliminate new cases of mother-to-child transmission of HIV worldwide by 2015, according to a UNAIDS statement. “Countdown to Zero” was launched at the 2011 United Nations High-Level Meeting on AIDS. According to a State Department statement, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has pledged an additional $75 million to the effort.
