I would be interested to know what other variables were accounted for and why the title is so misleading. When causal links can be found, then a mainstream publication should post it. This is more a general study to aid in the direction of research. Also, without marijuana the effects of my old HIV meds with my bipolar disorder (atripla, complera) would have lead to uncontrollable manic episodes that could have been dangerous (and sometimes still were).

This is an interesting exploratory study that is valuable as a guide to further research. But, in spite of the caveats about not demonstrating causality, when results of correlational studies such as this are reduced to headlines, they invite and imply the entirely improper conclusion that causation in a specific direction is probable. Further, the direction of that implied causality is often based on preconceived notions (bias) rather than evidence based science, with potential for harm.
