Adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) medications among pregnant women with HIV during pregnancy and after giving birth was inadequate in bothhigh- and low-income countries, according to a report in the journal AIDS andreported by aidsmap. The adherence rates in the United States, Kenya, SouthAfrica and Zambia were below the recommended level for viral suppression. In ananalysis of 51 studies, 73.5 percent of HIV-positive pregnant women hadadequate adherence during and after pregnancy. Adequate adherence is defined asequal to or greater than 80 percent.
