I guess NONE of the previous commenters actually read the article thoroughly!!! I said flat out that the iPrEx study found the 99% reduction. It's amazing when people read into something that is not there for their own agenda. And William if your "doctors" are saying you can get HIV on prep it should be reported to the AMA since it is a false statement and if they are not reporting it to the CDC then it is a violation of the law. Methinks it is YOU who actually has the agenda.

Yes, some clinical trials might have shown a 99% rate of effectiveness but I know first hand and by asking my physicians that there are MANY cases of individuals that have contracted HIV while taking PREP as a daily regimen. Please be smart and beware information online that doesn't tell the full story and that might be sponsored content from the drug company Gilead. Please use condoms if you can. You CAN get HIV taking PREP daily and it's not as rare as articles like this claim it to be.

We may have found a key to not getting HIV, but what about the higher STD"S . The pill is great but it is a sad we have more and more people becoming infected with STD.s

The hypothetical 99% prevention efficacy for people taking Truvada every day is yet to be substantiated by any field study. Don't you think it is therefore misleading to keep banging on it? Efficacy rates should be based on measured values. Those are the real odds people will face in their lives. Insisting on publicizing a never measured value is, I feel, making people feel more secure than they should and facilitating risk taking while on PrEP.
