John Carlin says RH+B's almost $1 million to ACT UP/NY was the only significant outside donation they received. A 1990 art auction organized by a ACT UP/NY committee that became Housing Works raised $1 million to fund a large part of ACT UP's mobilization at that year's international AIDS conference in SF, resulting in tremendous media, TAG participation in official proceedings, and disruptive, daily demonstrations led by ACT UP/SF, ACT/NY, and ACT NOW, the national coalition of ACT UPs.
