No one can really survive on SSI or any other type of monthly payment no matter where you live. Government assistance is to barely keep you alive not so you can actually live.

The lions-share of credit for Speaker Silver making this announcement is due to the indefatigable staff and members of New York City AIDS Housing Network (NYCAHN). NYCAHN got the Speaker's attention, some thought inappropriately, after his office had igniored all overtures for dialog for months. NYCAHN has also gotten Governor Paterson to say publicly, twice, he will sign the bill when it reaches his desk in answer to NYCAHN staff and members direct questions.
