So proud of you Garth. I hope one day I can have the strength to address my status head on. I am undetectable and have been for years and out of fear only a small core group knows my HIV status. Not sure I have what may be needed to fight the stigma and ignorance in this world.
We, who are poz, have the strength beyond what many can't muster with will. Thomas is but an example of most of us. Yes, he's a sports legend, but we all face the same fears. He unfortunately has to face it with the suspect eye of an uneducated public. Kudos to him for that. My only regret is that I'm not married to him :)
Good for him! It's shocking that anyone would try to blackmail him. This is 2019, not 1999. We have PrEP to prevent HIV, and undetectable, which equals untransmittable. If I were wealthy and someone tried to blackmail me, I'd laugh and say, "The money is far more important than my reputation from complete strangers." Since he's married, I'm sure his husband is a huge support system through this. No one should be forced to reveal private medical information to strangers.

It was probably a case of him having to tell all or else they'd publish first, rather than him being blackmailed for money. Yes, both equally shitty, but this is how some of the press can operate in the UK. Let's face it, the press isn't the only group from which some people behaves like that. So, too, it is the case of such blackmailing in government, in politics, in commerce, and in society.
