I was born in Catawba County, NC, and for 12 years my focus was to graduate and to move to a big northern city. Many same gender loving men in the 1970's did this....leaving the rural South without those who eventually would be activists for LGBT causes. That is a factor not mentioned in this article.

Stop making this so complicated, dramatic and tragic. Remember, for the VAST majority of cases, HIV is completely preventable. Take it from a 55 yo man who's been HIV poz for over 30 years (yes, I was stupid back then) - only have SAFE sex and don't use illegal drugs with shared needles. It's that simple. Really.
