Actually, the term 'net' when used in financial, banking, or related phrases refers to the money left AFTER all of the expenses and such are deducted. For example, one has a gross income and a net income. Gross income is what one gets/makes before expenses, taxes, etc. are deducted. What is left is net income. My suggestion, skip the RED phone and donate directly to one's local AIDS/HIV service organization, or some other organization where one knows EXACTLY how the money will be used.
Net revenue is different from profit. Revenue is the money a company brings in before expenses (building the iPhones, Macs, employee salaries, etc.). A better way to look at this is via the % of donation vs. profit. In this case it's closer to .05%, not .01%. Even that math is flawed since it's comparing the $130M to all Apple profit, not Red phone profit which accounts for so little of the overall profit. Apple is stepping up more than 99% of all other companies so I still applaud them.

I agree with Matt T. Comparing net revenue rather than the profits from just the (Red) iPhone is misleading. But Apple-bashers don't care about facts. Tim Cook has encouraged charitable giving by creating a donation-matching program for employees as well as donating $50 to Product (Red) himself. He's stated he intends to give his fortune away before he dies. Maybe Pink News "reporters" should do, you know, some actual research. (Source: www.insidephilanthropy.com)
