Parsifal, ur wrong. i recently self-cured HCV, n my risk factors were *only* sexual...from *topping*. i too note the biased language here n have issues with the author from other interactions...such that i suspect him to probably be a rear-guard condom-nazi in the Weinstein mold, only savvier. regardless, a growth in rougher porn has been helped a growth in rough sex play, and blood-borne pathogens r thusly easier to transmit. i'm a barebacktivist who blasts forth my truth regardless of bias.
The so-called alarming rates of infection are most likely the rates of availability & use of the test, esp for HIV+. Also, the numbers are well within the same numbers we see of HIV+ who use needles. I find the use of biased language and lack of any clear evidence of sexual transmission to be a case of Safe Sex hacks trying desperately to save funding for their jobs. MSM have voted overwhelmingly against Safe Sex as no longer relevant since the advent of protease inhibitors in 1998, R.I.P.
Meanwhile - people are promoting and heralding PrEP (including POZ). Safe sex requires a safe!
HIV damage to the gut lining is interesting but has mostly been documented in the colon and small intestine than in the rectum. What is more dramatic in its effect on the mucus layers and the lining of the anus and rectum is water-based lubes and water douching. This osmotic effect of lubes can cause the epithelium to peel off in sheets. Developing lubes and douches that are known to be safe with or without a microbicide might help prevent HCV sexual transmission.
Australia and UK began educating HIV-MSM in about 2005 about sexual transmission of HCV, mostly targeted at sexual adventurous men (eg fisters). It was alarmist, much finger-pointing, sex-stigma and talk of blood but mostly people donâ??t get to see blood during sex so the message lacked credibility. There still is a complete lack of mechanism such as which cell HCV infects in order to make its way to the liver and its hepatocytes â?? a story to cut through the flip-flopping alarmism and neglect.

I was a promiscuous gay man with my hiv undectable. I don’t know how long I had hep c but my ID doctor was checking me for it once a year. When I got sick in Oct 2017, I had 95% of the symptoms, not just one or two or none like most people. 45 days severe symptoms. 45 days of hell. Told I may be going into liver failure. I made it through and harvoni cured me but I almost died. Hep c is worse than hiv. If u r not safe u will catch it. I’m celibate now and for the foreseeable future.
