I one of three people HIV+ I know with multifocal avascular necrosis (both hips and both shoulders and likely more joint involvement). I have had one total hip replacement and am likely to have several more joint replacements). The only risk factors I have had are two garden variety steroid treatments lasting a normal course of a week or so. This is a fairly rare disease and rarer still to have multifocal (more than one joint)involvement yet the two other cases I know of are also multifocal.
