Dear DOCTOR, for once what you say is true, pete condoms must be used100% of the time. Test and treat, is working in MA USA. The rate of new infections are going down. Your past and strange theories, have marred your reputation. You have been wrong so many times. Rather hear from an other doctor. Your reputation, muddies the content of your comments.
Dr. Sonnabend asserts that the reason prevention education may fail is because prevention education was not provided well enough. That's quite a presumptive leap to arrive at that conclusion without data to support it, particularly by someone who ostensibly embraces use of a scientific method. "Did you know that consistent use of condoms can reduce the risk of acquiring HIV?" could be asked in an exit interview of those newly diagnosed HIV+. If most say Yes, did prevention education work?
Well one thing for sure a lower viral load, is safer, condoms is safer, combine that two and you have more saftey than say an individual who is positive and does not even know it because of the criminalization of HIV, the stigma associated with those that are uneducated and distrustful of the CDC which at times appears to under estimate the actual case activity. The media tend to want to sweep HIV under the rug... But the truth is there may be far more infected than anyone realizes.
the good doctor sounds conservative.
There are literally thousands of serodiscordant couples in the USA alone who conceive children naturally when one partner is undetectable. Moreover, all penetrative sex is not equal. I suggest that the good doctor re-evaluate his "small number" and "ignorant" assertions. I am a moderator at AIDSMEDS.com/POZ.com's forums, and I certainly don't hesitate to advocate it under certain circumstances (no other STIs, mutual monogamy, positive partner being the receptive partner, adherence to meds etc)
John Doe
recently, I had unprotected sex with someone who had HIV. I found out after the encounter was interrupted that he had HIV. He said I shouldn't worry because he had a low viral load. Three years ago, I dated a guy. We had unprotected sex on several occassions. I found out he had HIV as well. He said he had an undetectable viral load. HIV does not making you a monster. but it does force you to be a better, more honest person- or a plague. social acceptance comes with honesty.
