Policy debate over Syringe Exchange Programs is likely to continue due to the nature of the opioid epidemic. The fact that it now affects middle class white kids, and thus middle class white moms--the most powerful political demographic--is the only reason this issue even garners attention. Moms who know enough about the health dangers of injection drug use, with HCV at the top of the list, will support it and those legislators that support it. Others will use another lens to continue a debate.
