After 27 years, AIDS Walk Washington has changed its name to The Walk to End HIV, according to a statement by Whitman-Walker Health (WWH), which convenes this event. The fundraiser benefits WWH and more than 20 other groups in and around the Washington, DC, area.

To be held on Saturday, October 25, the goal of the event is to raise $1 million, which would surpass the $800,000 that were raised in 2013. Registration for the event is now open. For the first time, the five-kilometer walk also will be an official timed run. Participants can register to walk or run.

“Changing the name of a signature DC event after nearly three decades is a way to focus attention on getting us to that ultimate finish line,” said Don Blanchon, WWH executive director, “providing care for all who are HIV positive and getting to zero new infections.” Go to walktoendhiv.org for more about the event.
