I recently started watching Melrose Place. The third season 1994 featured a gay love interest of Matt Fielding who became HIV positive and resigned from the military. The Don't Ask Don't Tell and HIV storylines must've been huge at the time. It seems as though gay panic quickly morphed into AIDS panic during those early years. It was basically a death sentence before protease inhibitors were approved in 1995. The newly diagnosed are blessed compared to that awful, conservative time.
