Clinical trials notoriously exclude those w/ other medical conditions & taking several other medications. Boosted protease inhibitors combine 2 inhibitors of other (CYP 3A4) drugs, seriously backing up those drugs (& themselves) & multiplying the side effects. Doctors have put me through hell in the last 18 months, incl losing an eye socket, being in ER 3 times,& almost dying twice. The “established wisdom” of virtually all ID docs and those working with HIV is dangerously ignorant and naïve.
