I think this index should go to all culture and down into ASOs. I recently just left Palm Springs where an ASO stigmatized me for being HIV and not having AIDS. The leadership had me molested in the examine room, berated, changed medical records all under the leather power to teach me a lesson. I am in Florida on a mission trip and they mail me a bill for 5 dollars with AIDS in the return address for my landlord to see which I work with and got lay off my job. Shame Shame on the AIDS mafia of PS

When I worked for POZ I sometimes subbed as receptionist and people called in with experiences of stigma and discrimination--it was eye-opening because often these stories are not shared publicly. I'm proud that the U.S. People Living With HIV Stigma Index will help communities and individuals come together to fight the unacceptable stigma and discrimination that HIV-positive people still face. Unless we document and voice these issues the wet blanket of stigma will keep us from thriving.
