I now wonder whether DermaVir (ACTG-5176) therapeutic vaccine had TAT epitopes in significant amounts. In the summer of 2001, at the national ACTG meeting, it was announced that an SIV version of DermaVir brought near-dead SIV+ research monkeys back to "good health". It hindsight it appears that the researchers DID NOT want a therapeutic vaccine to become a reality. The researchers only wanted to test their patented unique epitopes. Intellectual Property was all that mattered - not patients.

Thatâ??s brilliant! Congratulations to Dr. Ensoli's team and patients. I'm glad that her jealous peers (from many years ago) didn't prevent her from reaching this goal. I recently raised my CD4+/CD8+ ratio from 0.9 to 1.3 with HAART and the TDaP vaccine. It was the first time in nearly 30 years that my CD4+/CD8+ ratio was above 1.0 Perhaps healthy HIV+ patients could benefit from a variety of vaccines. The most important of which is an HIV therapeutic vaccine.
