As brave as the people taking part in the experimental trial of such a vaccine as this are, who in the general population would want to be injected with something that is said to be 50% effective? It's the same as regards similar percentage effectiveness of ARV vaginal inserts. For the individual it's only 50% effective - and there might be side effects. Such low percentage rates helps numbers wise, yes, but half of the time you as an individual won't get any benefit at all.
