Randy Jones, the cowboy from the iconic pop music act the Village People, will perform in Wilmington, North Carolina, on the cruise boat Royal Winner Princess II for an HIV prevention concert, Star News Online reports. OutImpact.com, a gay online magazine, is organizing the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit YouthAIDS, an organization dedicated to HIV education and prevention among young people.

According to the article, Jones joined the Village People—a group famous for their colorful personas, suggestive songs and gay themes—in 1977. Jones said that by dressing up as a policeman, a leather-clad biker, a cowboy, a Native American, a construction worker and a sailor, the group members “were reclaiming these iconic images” and fighting the misperception that gay men only associate themselves with feminine imagery.
