My perception, as a newly poz gay man, is that the LGBT establishment can't run far or fast enough from this epidemic, regardless of how many of us are infected. Just ask them, they'll fall all over themselves to make it known that "this isn't a gay disease", to tell you how the recent estimates of seroprevalence MUST be an exaggeration because it surveyed bar patrons, that it doesn't affect anyone. Check any queer website. "This isn't a gay disease, its a disease of promiscuity" is a phrase which pops up again and again and again. You think that Gay Inc. is gonna talk about the life with the virus? I think we're getting a 30 page glossy on why Ellen Degeneres is a vegetarian, filled with 20 pages of "lifestyle editorals"-(advertisements) for million dollar queer retirement homes, booze and places to travel. Criticize Big Pharma advertising all you want, half the time its ads in The Advocate are the only reminder Negative Gay America gets that the disease is still around.
