Thanks Shawn! Although, I highly disagree with the core of this article, I value your open opinion in a community that I'd argue is split on this. The point I believe is that at this moment, by simply mentioning either-- MM had an opportunity for us all to not have this discussion at all... He missed the boat and history will solely judge that moment as important, unimportant or a miss. I believe it's less about the utterance of the words in the speech... And much more about the buddy-buddy aura his PR camp so blatantly chose to direct pre-release energy: a clear aim at the HIV community for help. Matthew understood the miss, I'd assume. Or he's never been connected with us to begin. That's unfortunate. Luckily, we have Tom Hank's speech on YouTube from several years ago and a heartfelt moment with Leto that makes us smile. Actor- yes! Activist- no. Hero? Not mine. But you, my friend are amazing! [ + ]

The issue I have is that, while you're okay with actors not talking about HIV/AIDS, actors are often very okay with cherry picking their pet projects or causes du jour. I guess HIV/AIDS isn't particularly sexy anymore, right? But it will help you win awards for a completely fictional--sorry, "inspired by actual events!"--movie.
